    hi, great site!
recently purchased a 61c and need to convert it to lp gas. found a dual fuel regulator for 42 bucks that supposidly will allow lp use w/o changing orifices. what do you think?

The C series had a universal mixer pin on all of the burners, which allows you to switch from natural to LP gas without changing the orifices. You do not need to change them.

The Service Manual tells you how to perform this task. I have them, along with the cookbook, if you need one. Let me know.

As for the regulator, I am pretty sure you do not need it - ask your propane dealer. Tell him you have a stove that is set up for LP gas, and were wondering if you needed a regulator for it. If that doesn't give you the answer you need, let me know, and I'll find out for you for sure.

hi, thanks for the info. the stove came with a service manual that details two diferent mixers pins for different gases. one requires changing orifices for lp. the other, "universal mixing pin" only requires adjustment of the collar over the orifice. they both look the same. how do i tell which i have? if i have the first type are parts available for conversion?
whatever time, parts and labor you can save me will be reflected in a donation to your wonderful site!
    thanks,
    tom

    Hi Tom,

Well, the best way to ruin your mixer pins that I've heard is to try to size them using drill bits, so DON'T do that!

Let me do some checking with a gas repairman I know, and I'll get back to you shortly!

    Thanks for asking!

"Miss Alma"arrived on Sunday. She's a 1950 Chambers C-90 and is far more forgiving than my ex. She also looks much better after 55 years than my ex and is still as hot as ever.

Anyway, there is a label on the inside of my storage door which advises that the unit was set up to run on LP and that the only conversion needed to run natural gas is to open the collar using a 1/2 inch wrench (i.e. close them down to return to LP). I'm still cleaning up her innards; however, there doesn't appear to be a regulator on my darlin'

    How exciting.

My Chambers 90-C does not use a regulators. I don't think you need them for a natural gas stove, but, just in case, call and ask a reputable gas applaince repairman.

Let us know what you find out.
